How Doll Lovers Dress Up a China Doll

I have often wondered how doll lovers can ever dress up a China doll since it is made of the shiny and glossy porcelain. Then I remember that the words "China Doll" actually meant a doll made from bisque or any porcelain material since "china" is applied to mean as the substance used which is porcelain. But basically though, "China Dolls" would mean dolls that are both antique and glazed.

Dolls call For Dressing Up
Regardless of the type of material used for producing dolls, bottom line remains that dolls need to be dressed up and so designers usually make an assortment of beautiful clothing designs for these China dolls. They are styled with fashionable smart and trendy clothes to give a picture of what a woman is really like. Hairstyles were made modern and stylish; China dolls were even seen sporting the sausage curl hair style, accessorized with bows and headbands, everything shaped in porcelain. At present, the unusual and highly adorned antique dolls, especially the china dolls which are truly antique, are valued at quite a lot of thousand dollars among the collectors' items being auctioned in the market.

Head Disjointed from Its Body
Did you know that in the latter part of 1800's, china dolls were commonly sold to the public with the head disjointed from its body? This was to allow the consumers to personally dress up her own china doll according to her individual interests, style and liking.

Since old china dolls were mainly created in Germany during the 1830's through 1930's, it was mostly the German toy manufacturing companies that produced bisque dolls typically looking shimmering and glossy due to its glaze, of course. Its head is glazed with pure and uncontaminated porcelain; its head sports some shaped hair as well as a pair of painted eyes. The head is connected to its body which is clothed in leather or textile.

Sometimes, bisque dolls are crafted with both arms as well as legs both made out of porcelain. While there are also china dolls that though they were completely made from porcelain, they were made differently. Their bodies and heads are joined or connected, which are more popularly known as the Frozen Charlottes. Yet another kind of porcelain dolls that doll lovers enjoy dressing up is the "Parian Dolls" which like china dolls have heads likewise made of pure porcelain material.
